THE WAY OF MATCHA / The centerpiece of the tea ceremony, matcha is a prized, powdered green tea from Japan. Made from the highest grade of tea leaves that have been stoneground, matcha provides you with tea’s full store of antioxidants, nutrients, and amino acids—most of which are lost when you just steep tea leaves.

L-THEANINE / For centuries, matcha has been an invaluable aid in meditation practice. Modern science has discovered that the foundation of this tradition is L-Theanine, a rare amino acid that actually promotes calm alertness. Not only does L-Theanine help negate daily stress, it also aids in concentration and memory. In concert with matcha’s other healthful components, it leaves you relaxed, refreshed, and focused.


Some people would call these instructions, but we like to think of it as a mini-meditation guide.
  1. MATCHA. Add one teaspoon of sifted matcha to the tea bowl. (If using a traditional bamboo tea scoop, add 2 heaving scoops.)
  2. WATER. Add two ounces of hot water (preferably filtered or bottled) at 180° F to the bowl. For a richer, fuller body, use just one ounce of water.
  3. WHISK. Whisk the tea and water in a vigorous back and forth motion until the tea is dissolved and a light froth appears.

Essential Utensils to Celebrate your Tea

We include the sifter because without it, no matter how much you whisk, your matcha will be clumpy. The bamboo whisk (chasen), invented centuries ago, is uniquely suited for creating a frothy beverage and the delicate fronds will not harm your tea bowl. The bamboo tea scoop (chashaku) is perfect for measuring out matcha powder and scooping tea out of a round tin. And for the same reason, we drink wine in stemware, the matcha bowl (chawan) is the best vessel for observing and celebrating the taste, aroma and color of your matcha tea.

Why Sift Matcha?

For the same reason bakers sift flour before using. The static electricity in the air encourages powders (be it flour, baking powder, cocoa, etc) to stick together and form clumps. The same is true with matcha green tea powder. Sifting matcha smoothes it out and lets it blend better into your drink or cooking recipe.

Water, Temperature and Taste

Water quality and temperature are important in making good tasting matcha. Begin with cool spring or filtered water and bring it to just under a boil (about 180 degrees). Boiling water will "scorch" the delicate matcha leaves and impart a bitter taste.

About Classic Grade Organic Morning Matcha

Matcha tea is come in various grades. The main differentiators are tea grade and ingredient grade. Morning Matcha Classic Grade is a tea grade blend made of organic tencha (dried tea leaves). This fine tea is denoted by its bright green hue and creamy aroma with hints of vanilla. When whisked with water the taste is full bodied with a lingering sweet finish.

Morning Matcha, organic matcha oowdered green tea, is rich in nutrients and antioxidants, especially the potent and renowned catechin, EGCg. Matcha contains caffeine, which stimulates the body, and amino acids, which relax the mind. A serving provides 3 to 4 hours of mild steady energy. Perfect for focusing on work, meditation or play.

What does thin tea mean?

The term "thin grade" means use less tea to more water, a style referred to as "thin tea."

About Nishio Growing Regions and JAS Organic Certification

We sourced this matcha from the environmentally friendly hillside region of Nishio. In the late 1800's a Buddhist priest introduced the varietal and production techniques of the Uji region used in matcha production. Soon Nishio became a formidable producer of matcha tea. In 2001 JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards Association), awarded its organic certification to the matcha teas from our Nishio farms.

The moment you unwrap your package you know it has been made with love for customers.
The whisk (chasen) came in a clean plastic container & its stand (chasen-tate) is a beautiful sky blue.
The scoop (chashaku)is fragile looking, but is sturdy while also being very light!
The sifter (furui) works wonderfully into turning matcha into fine powder.
I am overly impressed with the design of the packaging, it is just amazing! (metaphor) The gates of a green heaven split (metaphor) to present you with a beautiful, porcelain matcha bowl.
It heats up well, and big enough to prevent spills & for sharing.
The Morning matcha, if done right, is refreshing, relaxing, green heaven.
I would give this 10 stars if possible.
For $99 this gift set is a steal and is perfect for anyone wanting to add matcha to their breakfast, lunch, or dinner routine.
