    Matcha Starter Kit

All of the essential tools you need to prepare matcha tea at home, work or traveling. This set includes a 30 gram tin of Morning Matcha Classic Grade Organic matcha, a bamboo whisk for frothing tea, a sifter, a bamboo tea scoop and a how-to guide.

    The Bowl?
Why haven't we included a teabowl? While a teabowl is ideally suited for making matcha, it is not essential. A deep, ceramic cereal or rice bowl works too. Pick a bowl that is beautiful to you and that you'll enjoy using.

    The Sifter
We include the sifter because without it, no matter how much you whisk, your matcha will be clumpy. The bamboo whisk, invented centuries ago, is still the best tool for whisking. The bamboo tea scoop is perfect for measuring out matcha powder and scooping tea out of a round tin.

    Water, Temperature and Taste
Water quality and temperature are important in making good tasting matcha. Begin with cool spring or filtered water and bring it to just under a boil (about 180 degrees). Boiling water will "scorch" the delicate matcha leaves and impart a bitter taste.

What does Thick and Thin mean?
Premium matcha is divided into two categories: Thin and Thick. It denotes grade and the style of tea it is used to make. Thin matcha is used to make thin tea. Thick matcha is more flexible and is used to make both thin and thick styles. Morning Matcha is a classic thin style tea.
    • Thin Matcha, also called thin tea, is prepared with less tea to more water. The tea is wetter and sweeter prepared in this style.
    • Thick Matcha can be made as thin or thick tea. It is the highest grade of matcha, stone-ground from the youngest tealeaves. This delicateness gives you the chance to make it as thick as you like, as strong as you like, while still keeping the complexity of taste.
